Yosemite news
Thanks in the past for Downloading, Evaluating or Owning
Yosemite Backup. SoftAssure would like to officially inform you that
Yosemite Backup 8.7 has now been officially launched. Please note this
is not a free upgrade from 8.5 as this is a major release unless you
have a valid support contract (Please see the section about Yosemite
Care Customers for further details). If you are unsure who your reseller
is please contact us and we will put you in touch with them.
Yosemite Backup 8.7 - New Functionality / Operating
System Support
In addition to adding full support for the latest Windows
operating systems, including WinPE bare metal disaster recovery, there
are a number of improvements to help you simplify data protection.
1 - New Platforms: Vista & Win2k8 support (including
hyper-v). Bare Metal DR can now use WinPE BMDR with VSS ASR support.

2 - New Disaster Recovery: Simplified interface and improved site DR
documentation you’ll notice it takes fewer steps to get things
done. *See note 2
3 - Push Update of clients: Automated push update from your previous
version of Yosemite Backup this is the first release able to take advantage
of the push update capability.
4 - ADLDS (Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services) and Microsoft
DFS support
5 - Improved Active Directory support: to include Lightweight Directory
Services (formerly Active Directory Application Mode) and support for
Distributed File System environments.
6 - New Application Support: Support for SharePoint 3.0 sp1 and Exchange
2007 Service Pack 1
7 – Better Virtual Server Functionality: Ability to backup VMware
Machines / Hyper V Machines without the need to install YB on each system
Notes
1 - That’s full Vista and Windows 2008 Server support with open
file protection, Bare Metal Disaster Recovery using Windows Pre-installation
Environment to allow you to handle recovery to dissimilar hardware.
Full VSS support means Automated System Recovery works as it should,
but it also means that Hyper-V VSS backups can be performed on virtual
machines.
2 - We are also releasing a documented procedure to show how to recover
a Master Server in case of a disaster
3 – Now that Yosemite are using Win-PE Yosemite Backup
Bare Metal DR is a separate download requiring authorization. Please
all us for further information.
Yosemite Backup - FAQ 8.5 Availability and Recent Purchases
of 8.5
Q: If I have Yosemite 8.5 licenses and want to purchase
additional options or additional client / Media servers, for how long
will you sell these licenses, and how long will you support me on 8.5?
A: We will agree to sell the previous version options
/ Additional Server until 16th Dec 08. After this time we will require
approval for each customer who wishes to purchase any options / agents
for version 8.5. One year after release of the new version, support
for the previous version will end.
Q: Under what circumstances do I qualify for a free upgrade
if I do not have a valid Yosemite Care contract? Explanation –
I bought Yosemite Backup 8.5 without a Care contract prior to Yosemite
Backup 8.7 release.
A: If you purchased a base product less than 30 days prior
to GA you need to contact SoftAssure to seek approval and the relevant
keycodes.
Q: When is the last day that I can purchase Yosemite Backup
8.5 options? I purchased and received Yosemite Backup 8.5 prior to August
18, 2008. Yosemite Backup 8.7 is now released and I want to purchase
Yosemite Backup options. But I can’t upgrade my software right
now.
A: Until December 16th 2008
Q: I purchased Yosemite Backup 8.5 with Care but my contract
expired prior to the Yosemite Backup 8.7 release date of August 2008.
What do I need to do to be able to automatically receive the upgrade?
A: You will need to purchase an Upgrade, if you would
like Care you can take the Upgrade Promotion to get a upgrade and a
years free Care - up to 30th Sep 08. If you care expired less than 30
Days ago contact us first.
Q: Why do I need to download all BMDR options separately
now?
A: We are excited to be able to provide the powerful Bare
Metal Disaster Recovery capability enabled by Microsoft WinPE 2.1. However,
due to the very stringent licensing and royalty payment requirements
of using WinPE 2.1, we need to carefully track its distribution.
Packaging Changes in 8.7
Q: What D2D2NE (Disk to Disk to Any) is included in the
Standard Master Server?
A: 0 granted. Max capacity 1. No D2D2NE license is included
with the YB Standard Master Server. You may add up to one D2D2NE license
to a Standard Master Server domain to have Unlimited D2D2NE.
Q: I noticed that SAN Media Server is no longer on the
price list. How do I buy support for SAN Media Servers?
A: With iSCSI gaining popularity in SMB’s, we have
included SAN and shared device support with all Yosemite Backup Media
Servers. You can now obtain all of the functionality which used to require
the SAN Media Server with the Yosemite Backup Standard 8.7 Media Server.
Q: How many Media Server Options are granted with Yosemite
Backup 8.7 Unlimited?
A: Media Server Options are unlimited.
Yosemite Care Customers
Q: As I am on version 8.5 of the Software and have a valid
support contract when will I receive my Free Upgrades?
A: We will Endeavour to ensure all Yosemite Care Customers
get their upgrades as soon as possible. We are committed to our care
customers and we will issue an upgrade as long as you had a valid support
contract on the 18th August 2008. We will be issuing these keycodes
over the next 2-3 Months once we have established that there are no
major issues that will cause our care customers any problems. I am sure
you can appreciate there is a significant number of customers requiring
the upgrades and we want to make sure the transition from 8.5 to 8.7

Yosemite Backup 8.7 Upgrade Promotion a
Any Customers who owns a previous version of Yosemite Backup / TapeWare
version 6.X to 8.5 can buy the Upgrade Product without support and receive
a Years Free Support.
Notes
1 - The product without support part code should be ordered at normal
price and a 1 Year Renewal at £0 ie 101.0221247.99z (Master Server)
+ 101.9721247.91z (renewal Free of Charge)
2 – You must upgrade the Master Server and then you can optionally
upgrade the same agents options as they had in there previous license.
Any new options need to be purchased as normal
3 - The upgrade can only be used as a version upgrade from previous
versions of Yosemite Backup / TapeWare, this offer is not available
to competitive upgrade customers
